A BARN BURNER Titan Tom Glavine was rolling along but after pitch 107, even though he'd had K'd 11 and walked just 1, he came out after 6 innings and Aaron Heilman came on to start the 7th. Heilman had absolutely nothing tonight and Willie Randolph made a great move as he came out and pulled Heilman for Dauner Sanchez. Sanchez gave up a sac fly to Gabe Gross and that was it. Now in the Brewers 8th, they have 1st and 2nd 2 out and Sanchez is working on Brady Clark 3-2 2 out on Clark, foul ball. Sanchez stays 3-2. foul off again to the right side. do it again 3-2 2 out. Another foul to the right side. Clark is just a bit late on the fastball. Ground ball to AHern over to Delgado side retired. LoDuca, Beltran and Delgado due up in the bottom of the 8th. Sanchez is turning into a bulldog out of the pen. He has no fear and looks calm and collected out there throwing gas. LoDuca up against Jorge de lo Rosa. 2-2 to Dookie as he tries to get on base for the big boys to get some insurance. Dookie grounds out 3rd to 1st. Beltran up. Nice to see Willie has relaxed the facial hair ban as Beltran, Delgado and Jerry Manuel have goatees going. Beltran grounds out 3rd to 1st. 2 outs for Delgado. Delgado hits the first pitch to Weeks at 2nd (Brewers using a shift on Delgado by bringing J.J. Hardy over from short to the right side of the infield with Weeks) and the side is out. Here we go Enter Sandman Billy Wagner. Where is Keith Hernandez? Ron Darling is with Gary Cohen again tonight and they were joined by Ralph Kiner for a couple of innings. Darling is much improved form last year as a National color man. I like how Bill Webb would cut to the booth and Darling was showing what pitches were the different grips that Brewers starter Chris Capuano was using. But what? The Mex needs a rest already? Com'on Wagner gets J.J. Hardy to fly out to LF 1 out in the 9th. Geoff Jenkins up. Strike 1 swinging. Takes strike 2 0-2 1 out. Jenkins takes a ball 1-2. Fouled off to the left side. Wagner pumping it up to 95 mph. Ground ball to Wright over to Delgado 2 away. Carlos Lee up. HOLY SHIT LEE it a blast foul to left field not foul by much. LOOOOOOng stirke. another foul 0-2 on Lee. Wagner cleaning his spikes as it a rainy night. Fouled off. Count holds at 0-2. Fouled again 95 mph fastball by Wagner. Off speed pitch outside 1-2. HHHHHHEEEEE SSSSSSSSSSSSSSTTTTTTTTRRRRRRRRRUUUUUUUUUKKKKKKKKKKKK HIM OUT. METS WIN!METS WIN! 8-1 RECORD 7 IN A ROW WWWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! Wagner fooled Lee with a nice off speed pitch. Give the game ball to Titan Tom Glavine as he was vintage Glavine hitting corners to K 11 just 1 off his career high. You have to give a game ball also to Dauner Sanchez as he came on for a very ineffective Aaron Heilman and stopped what could have been a big inning by the Brewers. Heilman did not retire a batter and left a mess for Sanchez. Sanchez gave up a sac fly to Geoff Jenkins and that was it. He also got himself out of a self made jam in the 8th unscathed. < |
