Tough loss last night but if there is anything positive you can take from the game it's the bullpen is en fuego! The only member of the pen not to get into the game was the over protected Jorge Julio. The remaining relievers went 8 innings giving up 2 BB and K'ing 10. When Chad Bradford gave up the winning hit to Brian Giles that scored Geoff Blum (now there is a perfect bench player) it ended a 22.1 shutout innings by the Mets pen. So what was thought to be a weakness is the biggest the strength of this team.
How long can Brian Bannister walk this tight rope without a net? As much as he walks the ball park and seems to have at least 2 men on base every inning, you have to be impressed by the way he bares down when he does get in trouble. He's like the Anti-Zambrano. For whatever reason Bannister just could not get his breaking ball over for strikes and without a curve or biting slider a guy like Bannister with an average fastball will get lit up. But some how he bares down and gets out of jams. You hardly ever see rookie pitchers do that. The question is though how long can he get away with this?
The bats have gone a bit frosty. After his inside the park homer, KazMat has gone 1 for 8. Dookie had a hit last night after going 1 for his last 14. Jose Reyes after a torrid start and better pitch regintion is 8 for 44. Wright is 6 for the last 36. Then there is Endy Chavez with is .143/.182/.190 line plus 6K's and 1 BB in 21 AB's but of course there is no talk of bringing up Milledge if Beltran goes on the DL!
Petey tonight against Chris Young 10 PM HURRAH!
