ACCORDING TO FORBES, WE'RE NO MOM AND POP OPERATION
Forbes magazine is out with it's MLB franchise values. The Highlanders are first at $1 Billion dollars. The first baseball team to reach that mark. I will again show my age as I remember the day the Bronx Robber Baron and his syndicate took over ownership of the Highlanders from CBS. Mike Burke, a Manhattan bon vivant who ran the team into the ground, made a deal to sell the team for $10mil. I believe the Bronx Robber Baron put up about $2mil to get the majority control of the team. In his initial press conference, the BRB, was a ship magnate from Cleveland and said he would have nothing to do with the day to day operation of the team. That lasted one season.
The big news here is the Skill Sets are sitting on a gold mine at number 3 (Old Town Team is 2nd @$617 mil) with a team worth $604 mil. Wait until the new ballpark is in operation the team should be near the $1bilion mark by then. So with all the gotten gains, can't the organization release Jose Valentin without making a dent in it's wallet?
