WAKE UP AND FIND OUT THAT YOU ARE THE EYES OF THE WORLD Lets look at some Mets news: Wally Backman had thought he was going to get the Binghamton managerial job but it seems that Omar Minaya has but the kibosh on that. Even with the blessing of the Skill Sets to hire Backman, Minaya was given the final say so and he said no. Now Omar better have a better candidate for the job or he has some explaining to do. No doubt Wally comes with loads of baggage but with the way the organization is embracing the 86 ers and with Backman showing contrition to some serious charges, why not give him a second chance in baseball? The Tampa Bay Devil Rays proved again why they are the most inept franchise in baseball as the dealt the object of Omars affection RHP Danys Baez and RHP Lance Carter for PHP Edwin Jackson and LHP Chuck Tiffany. Thats a big drop off from wanting the Mets to ship Aaron Heilman for Baez. Jackson was a hot name on the prospect list a couple of years ago but a forearm injury and loss of command of his fastball has him on the suspect list. Tiffany has a live arm but tends to gain weight. He has great command of three pitches (FB, CV, CH) and throws for strikes consistently. He has just finished his first season of full minor league action with Vero Beach of the FSL. Tiffany could be the pitcher with the biggest upside in this deal. Wayne Coffey has a great feature on the childhood of Mets closer Billy Wagner. After reading about Wagners upbringing and some of the events of his life, pitching in NY will be a piece of cake. The Mets have branched out to the land downunder for talent as they have signed a 17 year old pitcher from Australia, Shaun Tabrett. Tabrett was signed by Mets scout Tony Harris and will be in spring training next month. The plan is for Talbert to go to extended spring training and then to the Mets Academy in the Dominican Republic for the summer. (TO POST A COMMENT PLEASE CLICK ON THE TIME OF THIS POSTING) < |
