OOOHHH THAT SMELL Let me turn my attention toward the Meets after watching the New York Football Giants put on one of the pitiful performances in their long and illustrious history yesterday afternoon. Not to get in to this too much as there is enough blame to go around. If you dont believe me just ask Tiki Barber. GARY CATER TO MANGE AT ST. LONESOME The Mets are giving The Kid a promotion for a job well done in leading the Gulf Coast Mets last year. Carter though has he eye on a big league job and takes a little jab at Joe Giradi and his getting the job of running the Fish bench: {"It's not what you know, but who you know. Look at (Florida Marlins first-year manager) Joe Girardi, he doesn't have any managerial experience, but he sat alongside Joe Torre and (Marlins' owner) Jeffery Loria took an interest and hired him."} Gee, isnt that how Willie Randolph got the Mets job? Make no mistake I could see Kid Carter burning up the phone lines from Shea to St. Lonesome if the Mets get off to a bad start. Lets put the cards on the table here the job he wants is manager of the Mets: {"I figure I'll give it a couple of years," Carter said. "Who knows, if I do a good job this year in St. Lucie maybe an opportunity will come next year. Even though I would like to stay in the Mets organization, they have to realize that there are 29 other teams out there.} Remember Carter wanted very badly to go in the Hall of Fame with a Mets cap on his plaque but the HOF nixed that idea. He knows Randolph has 2 years left on his deal and with all the money plus SNY looms large as well, if the Mets were to get off to a bad start this year or really not play to the potential everyone has envisioned for 06 well it could get very interesting around Flushing. Can you imagine Kid Camera Carter and SNY? More Mets manager news as Matt Cerrone over at MetsBlog is reporting that Wally Backman will be named manager of Binghamton Mets. I tell you what else Id like to see, how about hiring Ray Knight as the bench coach and HoJo as the batting coach? Lets make Willie really paranoid huh? HOW GOOD IS DAVID WRIGHT? On and off the field that is. Kevin Kernan had a big spread on Wright in Sundays NY Post and if you didnt think that Wright is the greatest thing to happened to the Mets since M. Donald Grant dropped dead then read this article and then do as I did and pinch yourself to realize this kid is a Met. On thing did bother me though in the story. Wrights mother is the same age as me (47) and his father is a year younger. I havent felt so old since Tom Seaver turned 60! (TO POST A COMMENT PLEASE CLICK ON THE TIME OF THIS POSTING) < |
