IF SUTTER, WHY NOT GOOSE? Congratulations to Bruce Sutter for his being named to the baseball Hall of Fame. It's just a shame that Goose Gossage isn't going in with him. Forget looking at the numbers with these guys, you had to see both of them pitch to understand why the belong in the Hall of Fame. Sutter brought the split finger to prominence and was as close to unhitable as Mariano Rivera is today. Plus he saved many game with 1-3 innings pitched. Same with Gossage. He was overpowering with the Highlanders and a workhorse during their late 70's revival. With Cal Ripken, Tony Gwynn and mark McGwire on the ballot for the first time next year it will be tough for Goose to get his due. < |
