BENCH WARMERS ON SALE The list of the non tendered players came out yesterday and a couple of names have piqued my interest: RHP Chad Bradford All readers of Moneyball (Chapter 11) know the plight of Chad Bradford. The biggest problem Bradford has had is lack of self-confidence. As a member of the As pitching coach, Rick Peterson tried to get into Bradfords head and set it straight but Bradford suffers from a lack of confidence. Bradford has the funk come from down under release and might be worth a spring training invite to see if Professor Rick can work with him one more time. LHP Craig Breslow Who? I said the same thing. I took a look at Breslow and he would make an interesting signing. His career is a bit of a mystery as he was drafted by the Brewers in the 26th round in the 2002 draft and ended up with the Pads. From 2002 to 2005 he worked his way up the minor league ladder showing good control and strikeout ability. Breslow got his shot in the big leagues with the Padres last season getting into 14 games. In 16.1 innings Breslow struck out 14 but walked 13 and gave up 15 hits. Breslow is from Connecticut and went to Yale, add that in with working with Professor Rick and Breslow becomes a very attractive option for the Mets bullpen. OF Eric Byrnes Readers of this site know my about my man crush on "Byrnesie" and how excited I was when Omar was looking to trade Mike Cameron to the As for him. Now that he is out on th open market and would cost just a 1 yr deal Byrnes breakneck style would add a charge to the Mets. Id much rather have Byrnes as an extra outfielder that Tike Redman. OF Timo Perez Relax, Im joking A few of the recent baseball transactions has caught my eye: {Arizona DiamondbacksAcquired RHP Orlando Hernandez, RHP Luis Vizcaino and OF Chris Young from the White Sox in exchange for Javier Vazquez and cash considerations} No not that Javier Vazquez got away but I would love to see the Mets go after El Duque. You know he will not be happy in Phoenix so you could most likely get him for a song so why not let him be the swingman in the bullpen? {Milwaukee BrewersSigned INF Russel Branyan and RHP Kane Davis to one-year contracts; did not tender contracts to RHP Dan Kolb and RHP Jeff Bennett.} A moment of silence please for the end of the Dan Kolb era. {Cleveland IndiansSigned RHP Danny Graves and RHP Steve Karsay to Minor League contracts with invitations to Spring Training.} Dead Arm Pitchers Society {New York MetsSigned LHP Darren Oliver, RHP Jose Parra and LHP Pedro Feliciano to Minor League contracts with invitations to Spring Training; Released LHP Kazuhisa Ishii.} How about this both Ishii and Jason Phillips have been released. Oliver, Parra and Feliciano are like scratch off loto tickets. Hey, you never know! {Tampa Bay Devil RaysAcquired C Josh Paul from the Angels for nonroster 3B Travis Schlichting. Paul had been designated for assignment on Dec. 9.} For the crime of not tagging A.J. Pierzynski during the playoffs your sentence to a season with the D-Rays. {The Padres traded Ps Adam Eaton and Akinori Otsuka and minor league C Billy Killian to the Rangers for P Chris Young, OF Terrmel Sledge and 1B Adrian Gonzalez.} Last year at this time, Mets fans were wondering if Gonzalez could be freed form exile behind Mark Texiera to take over first base for the Mets. Now with Carlos Delgado taking over first base for the Mets I wish Gonzalez all the best in San Diego. Say hi to Ron Burgundy for me. {The Cardinals signed P Sidney Ponson to a 1 year contract.} Sir Sid just got out of the joint for DUI (4 day sentence) One more reason the Cards will be a non factor in the 2006 NL race. {The Dodgers re-signed 1B Hee Seop Choi to a 1 year, $725,000 contract, to avoid salary arbitration, re-signed P Kelly Wunsch to a minor league contract, with an invitation to spring training, and nontendered INFs Mike Edwards and Brian Myrow and C Jason Phillips.} Damn! I wanted Kelly Wunsch as NRI for the Mets. Talk about your classic LOOGY! I feel bad for Jason Phillips as I thought hed become a solid hitter, didnt you? {The Reds re-signed C Jason LaRue to a 2 year, $9.1 million contract, to avoid salary arbitration} I may have to have a little side box on the blog to watch the progress of LaRue and Dookie.
