IT'S LUCY IN THE SKY AND ALL KINDS OF APPLE PIE SHE GIGGLES AT THE SCREEN 'COS IT LOOKS SO GREEN THERE'S CARPETS ON THE PAVEMENTS AND FEATHERS IN HER EYE BUT SOONER OR LATER, HER NEW FRIENDS WILL REALISE PETEY WAS PITCHING FOR THE D.R. PETEY WAS PITCHING FOR THE D.R. Pedro Martinez has told the Mets he will pitch in winter ball and will be part of the rotation for the team representing the Dominican Republic in first World Baseball Classic in March. Im really straddling the fence on this one as Im all for the World Cup but on the other hand Im worried about Peteys fragility and its effect on the Mets 2006 season. I mean Petey was shut down due to breaking down and fatigue so I would hope that by pitching in the compettion wont lead to and injury due to over use. But then I understand what it means to Martinez and to the pride of the Dominican people to not only compete in this event but to come out on top. Carlos Beltran as well is looking to play for Team Puerto Rico and it could cost him three weeks of spring training with the Mets. Its not like hell be sitting around those weeks if anything the training he gets with Team P.R. would be more intense than in St. Lonesome plus there is less concern with an everyday player like Beltran breaking down than and older pitcher like Petey. This is all new to MLB and the fans so we just have to watch as it goes along the season long effect of this tournament has on the wear and tear of the participants. http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/story/357423p-304571c.html "FROM THE (LAME) DUKE TO SIR LORD BALTIMORE" Jim (Lame Duke) Duquette has left the Mets to join the Baltimore Orioles as Vice President of the Orioles. No word if hes bringing The Zambrano Project to the Inner Harbor with him. "BONSAI BOBBY" It seems the post season drought is not just contained to MLB as the Chibba Lotte Marines have ended a 31 year reign as also rans as they have advanced to the Japan Series. The Marines are led by none other than ex-Mets manager Bobby Valentine and players Benny Agbayanni and Matt Franco. The Marines have been built on what looks like a Moneyball concept as the have a high team OBA and their pitchers throw strikes and are very stingy about giving free passes. Valentine-san will be back in the big leagues very soon after this accomplishment. http://www.yomiuri.co.jp/dy/sports/20051019TDY24005.htm (TO POST A COMMENT CLICK ON THE TIME OF THIS POSTING) < |
