While reading the papers last week I saw an item that said the Mets will be holding a public workout at KeySpan Park in Coney Island the home of the Brooklyn Cyclones. For those of you who have never seen or been to Coney Island well it's the poor man's Riviera. Going to a Cyclones game at KeySpan, is one of the great pleasures of the summer. The ballpark sits right off the boardwalk, and just a block form Astro Land and Nathan's. On the hottest day of the summer a night at KeySpan with the cool ocean breeze off the Atlanitc Ocean is fabulous. The toughest part though is getting a ticket to a game. The park holds 8,000 fans and individual game tickets are few and far between.
I have always wondered if Fred and Jeff Wilpon think Maybe we should have built a 40,000 seat park here and moved the Mets to Brooklyn. My hads shook wrting that last sentence since I was born and raised in Brooklyn about 4 miles from Coney Island and I now live on Staen Island abut 7 miles from KeySpan Park. It might hace been doable. There is plenty of subways and buses to Coney Island and although it my have made a mess of the Belt Parkway also know as the "Three Lane Parking Lot" I'm sure that improvements could have been made. Remember, KeySpan was built prior to 9-11-01-in fact thats the year it openned 2001-so the ecomony was robust. It's just a thought. _
